Mr B contacted Simon Land Gardens in January 2016 to help with ongoing maintenance of their 1.5 acre garden near Crewkerne, Somerset. The client had sadly lost the services of his previous gardener due to illness and was looking to forge a long term relationship with a new gardener to continue the role. The client has a keen interest in the garden, though due to the size and a lack of time requires someone to care for it fully.
This was an established and loved garden when I joined with sloping lawns, numerous mixed borders, formal vegetable area, as well as a large paddock with established and new wildflower areas. The client also had many feature plants in pots surrounding the terraced patio areas around the house border. The house is in a very rural site and is situated in a valley.
This garden had been 'gardened' for a long time and the borders are richly planted, very interesting, with a natural feel. Spring brings an abundance of snowdrops and hellebores, and there are many roses & hydrangeas. The garden contains a number of cherry trees, some very mature ash, and a beautiful sweet chestnut in the paddock
Additional Projects - Since taking over charge of the garden here, we have undertaken projects to increase wildflower areas in the paddock with 3 shaped areas prepared and sown in the autumn of 2016. Formal hedges around the vegetable border which previously had a life of their own, have been shaped and renovated to provide a clean and crisp finish. We have also planted a number of large specimen trees and shrubs in the garden, including Japanese Acers, Trachycarpus fortune, as well as large large Betula utilis jacquemontii. I have also constructed some large compost bays suitable for this size property.
